Rebel Moon Part 2 is Also Not Very Good
Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scargiver is a monumental achievement, in that it is somehow significantly worse than Part 1. This is the worst piece of media I have ever had the displeasure of analysing. Strap in, because this film is an experience.

I really love these Hobbit videos, though one thing I want to challenge is the whole "East" thing you complain about in the White Council vs the Nine section. You're acting like "the East" only refers to Mordor and acting as if the world ends at the edge of the map. The map of Middle Earth we have is just the Northwest of a much larger continent. Rhun and Khand exist well past the confines of the map we have of Middle Earth. So when Sauron is saying the East will fall and he'll get power there, yadda yadda, he's saying he's going to get the human allies we see him have in the LOTR. It's like someone in Poland being banished to Turkey (the East) and he implies he'll return with a host of Easterners (Persians) - but your map of Europe doesn't have Persia on it, so you conclude he's being an idiot because he already owns Turkey, the most Eastern place. Maybe you correct this in your final analysis video. If so, good work and sorry for pestering you about this

Honestly, up to this episode it would still have been an amazing reveal that Galadriel was Sauron - she sucks - she would think it unwise to go back to Valinor - has reason to contrive BS to go to the Southlands - has just installed some rando as their king - would explain why she doesn’t ask Elrond about his life, i.e. she doesnt know - (in a sane world) is actively provoking Numenor to hate elves and their perceived favoritism by the Valar - would make more sense if “she’d keep Sauron alive” bc she is Sauron - would explain why fire doesn’t hurt her. It could have been amazing!

Iirc, Helms Deep is chosen because it presents a target for Saruman. Yes the Riders still exist and Gandalf is gathering them, but killing the king and a huge portion of the population would be a crippling blow to Rohan. In other words -> the Uruks have a reason to attack there and the Riders have a reason to show up there.

The thing about the sickness of the mind for the gold.. in this fantasy land, gold is a metaphor/represents (rather direct for worldly wealth, and also for power) and to any who are unfathomably rich and powerful, as real history shows over and over again such vast resources typically detaches said person or persons from the reality of regular human/dwarf life or what have you. They forget the value of life (except your own). And well Dragons love power, which is the reason why in fantasy stories written over and over again they tend to hoard gold. because it represents power, and by hoarding that power, prevents any who may think to rise up against you to use that power against you. Yes, they didn't go into much detail in this to spell it out for you (because it's been written about over and over again by plenty of fantasy writers), but I think that's the jist of it.

You know, I was thinking that you should review Andor. I know, I know, you said no Star Wars. And I get that. But it's largely a stand-alone story, virtually no one has done an indepth review of the show, and people who otherwise tend to agree on things have widely differing opinions on it. I find it very mixed--the good aspects are really good but then it has some bad aspects that are really strange, which I think makes it a great subject for your kind of breakdown on "what works, what doesn't, and why."

I just realized this--why did Radagast go to Gandalf? He had to go past Galadriel and Saruman's domiciles to get to where Gandalf was OR he had to go through the mountains and past Elrond. I realize they set up Saruman as being strangely dickish to Radagast, but still, Saruman is, according to Gandalf in LotR, "the head of our order," so it really should be his JOB to go there. And surely Galadriel and Celeborn would have at least listened to him. Same for Elrond. No, he bypasses the same three people Gandalf ends up reporting to anyway to try to find the one guy who doesn't have a home and wanders across Middle Earth ceaselessly. And then he leaves to help the party but why is he just gone? He shows up a ways later to help Gandalf, twice, but it's strange that he didn't head to Rivendel too, to further discuss the earth-shattering news of Sauron's potential return with Gandalf and Elrond (not realizing the other two were there as well). He's just so bizarre in this trilogy, which is unfortunate because we old Doctor Who fans were happy to see Sylvester McCoy on the big screen.

First) the writer is J.R.R. Tolkien . If you must mock, mock the adapters not the writer! Mocking the writer makes you look unable to appreciate a best selling classic . Do you believe your analysis outweighs how popular the books are? While the movie adaptation added and subtracted many, many things from the books you seem to overlook the fact that the adaptations made a clean sweep at the academy awards!

    • @randomft

JRR Tolkien did not write the script for this movie. My criticisms of this film have absolutely nothing to do with the book. The Hobbit trilogy was nominated for 7 Oscars and won zero. Try again.

I love how the only remotely fundamentally consistent bit of writing in the entire series is that the Harfoots are complete and utter nimrods beyond salvation. It'd be even more appropriate in the likely scenario that the writers thought they were doing something else with that gaggle of chronic speds.

Jinx shooting the crow is an example of how wonderful the story-telling in the show is: Like Jinx, crows are seen as ill-omens. Jinx shooting it is ultimately an act of self-hatred, an expression of her own twisted self-image. Buying into the idea of someone or something being innately a harbinger of misfortune, reinforcing the lie that dictates her life.

I just gotta wonder about one thing concerning the Galadriel character. She's petulant, arrogant and abusive to the people around her, and not only is she willing to go on a crusade to genocide her enemies, she's invincible. She sounds like Sauron. why isn't she considered by the entire cast of characters to be the villain here?

I want to start this comment by saying that i don't like this movie. I think there is a big pacing problem especially with the human world portions and I think the "real world" was portrayed in such a 1 demential way that the movie's message does come off as flat. But if I allow myself to defend this movie for one second the movie is not anti motherhood which surprised me because usually movies like this are. The opening scene is actually a reference to the fact that at the time Barbie came out boys toys were diverse they had action figures, toy race cars and a whole lot of toys that most people would think about when they think of boys toys. Girls on the other hand had baby dolls and thats it. Thus means that Barbie the doll was revolutionary because it allowed girls to go from having 1 type of toy to 2. This might seem ridiculous now even with the state of the toy market still having more diversity in the types of toys boys have as apposed to girls but it is the truth. Now it can still be argued that this is a bad scene to start your movie with because it requires the audience to have a background knowledge of kids toy history and that point I can't argue with but I do want to say that the scene is not anti motherhood its anti girls having 1 type of toy.

You may have noticed, part 1 of this series is no longer on UA-cam. This is because Netflix, in their infinite wisdom, decided to nuke the video. I am in the process of resolving this, but it may take a couple of weeks. As part 1 was not removed until shortly after it broke 100k views, I fully expect the same to happen with this video. Stay tuned, it will be back soon.
